Half Hour Rule!
In Vedas we insist on this Half Hour rule! Once again it sounds odd, when you hear it; but it is very powerful when you practice it day after day.
Basically, you are not allowed to be stuck on a problem for more than half hour. It does not mean that “you better solve every problem in 30 minutes or else !!”. Instead what it means, is that allocate a “fixed” time for solving any problem and if it can not be completed by that time, then go take a walk; give your mind some rest or diversion; ask someone else for help; look around as to how to solve the problem in a different way etc etc.
In order to follow this rule, you need to really dissect your task into half hour chunks. Once again, it does not mean that all tasks are amenable to chopping up into half hour sub-tasks. It is done where practical; but by keeping this rule in mind, you are automatically challenged to analyze/dissect problems into smaller/bite sized chunks that can be easily swallowed.
| Another benefit you get is that your mind is always challenged and alert and ready for the next chunk. It never gets caught within a loop and loose focus. Yet another benefit, is the fact that you are always aware of where exactly you are in getting the task done; so there are no surprises. Between this rule and “Eat that Frog” you can always tell when you will complete your task and with what comfort level. |
